“My 19 year old niece, Veronika Weiss was murdered while walking with two sorority sisters on the Friday evening of Memorial Day Weekend in 2014. The senseless mass shooting occurred in Isla Vista, California on May 23, 2014 near the campus of the University of California at Santa Barbara.

There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of Veronika and where and what she would be doing. She would be 25 this February 24, 2020. She had so much promise in Math and Economics. She was an amazingly fierce girl who approached every thing in her life with confidence, humor, and commitment. My heart aches for the future she didn't experience and for the hole she left in her family's and her friends' lives.

To honor her memory, I speak out for common sense gun laws that will help make all our communities safer. I testify to congress, meet with groups, and tell her story to anyone I can. No family should have to experience what mine has. I will always speak in Veronika's honor and her memory.”
